Corrugated Cardboard is used often as a layman’s term when referring to corrugated sheets. Corrugated sheets are cut and trimmed to many different sizes, which are used to manufacture boxes. These sheets of fiberboard are made on a corrugator. A corrugator is a long apparatus of machinery which applies an adhesion process to paper liners and to a medium or chemical paper. This process incorporates 3 separate pieces of paper (2 liners – 1 medium) into a single layered sheet. The process involves a starching and gathering process referred to as uptake of the medium paper into a corrugated sheet layer. Some corrugators are well over 100″ wide, but on average their maximum width range is between 85″ to 110″. This allows for many different size corrugated cardboard sheets to be run in different widths to optimize yields when converting corrugated boxes. At the end of the corrugator the sheets are cut to various length sheets. These sheet are then delivered to a sheet plant and used in the box manufacturing process
